Overview

Lake Duluti is a small crater lake situated in eastern Arusha. It takes approximately 20 minutes from Arusha City. Lake Duluti is an old crater that became a lake. The lake is incredibly deep. They say it’s more than 700m deep, but it’s unconfirmed to this day. Lake Duluti is beautifully located between the green, lush forests and lends itself to plenty of activities. From here you’ll have views on Mt. Meru and sometimes even Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is a paradise for reptiles and water birds Lake Duluti is claimed to have up to 130 different species. The most common birds that can be seen include grey herons, fish eagles, cormorants, ospreys, egrets, and kingfishers.

Monitor lizards can be seen sunbathing on the edge of the lake and a great variety of birds have made their homes here. Occasionally monkeys can be seen swinging from the treetops on the edge of the lake.

ITINERARY

Pick up from the lodge/hotel and drive to Lake Duluti for a day trip stop at the Duluti Forest Club where we can enjoy the beautiful surroundings, have a guided hike around the lake and take the canoe out for a spin. During the hike, you will explore the lake and learn about its interesting history, variety of animals, and its flora & fauna. As well as the breathtaking views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro you will be accompanied by a ranger from the Duluti forest reserve and the hike around the lake can take more than 2 hours. After the hike, you can choose to grab a canoe and paddle around the lake to spot some monitor lizards or just float around in the sun. Upon returning there’s loads of time to relax, have a swim in the lake and drink a beer from the forest club. Later you will return to your Lodge/Hotel
